"Managing a research project involving half a dozen researchers over two years is a complex undertaking. The complexity is compounded when the topic is global partnering and involves 170 interviews with executives in many ICT companies. Given the scale and complexity of this project I believe the authors have done a masterful job in presenting their findings in a highly readable book on Global Network Management. While based on the experience of Finnish companies, it is clear the frameworks and tools in the book can be usefully applied by small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in any part of the world who are thinking about internationalization. Self-assessment forms and checklists throughout the book will help them decide on their readiness and point toward the next steps they should pursue in their partnering strategy. From broader strategic issues such as alignment of partnering with overall corporate strategy to partner selection, relationship management and the practical aspects of IPR protection and exiting the partnership with style, this book is an excellent “how-to” primer for practicing managers."

Global Network Management

– Ideas and Tools for ICT firms to succeed
in international network environment.

As a result of intensive and in-depth research for the past two and a half years on the partner management practices in the information and communications technology industry, we proudly present the workbook of the Global Network Management –project entitled:

Global Network Management – Ideas and Tools for ICT firms to succeed in international network environment

Building on over 170 interviews of top-level managers conducted in Finnish ICT firms, this book provides you with practical tools and methods for managing international partnering in the turbulent high-technology business. In addition, this book helps you to understand what is required from your firm’s functions and processes in a partnering based business. It also advises you on how to take a more systematic approach to your cooperation with other firms. Most of the tools introduced in this book have been tested and used within ICT companies. That is why we know they really work!

Several practical illustrations link the theory to actual company cases and the real-life situations that are typical of day-to-day work in partnerships. Numerous direct quotations from interviews with managers enhance our observations on how to think and rethink partnering in the ICT business. Although the analysis was done mainly of Finnish companies, we believe that the challenges of partnering are to a large extent universal, and thereby we are confident that the tools and methods are applicable irrespective of the national origin of the company.
